Having never been in an American airport before, it is all a bit daunting; finger prints and eye scans for the 7ft man behind the glass pane. Efficient, yes. Smile, no.
The cold air hits you as soon as you leave the airport. Our rep is a genuine New Yorker with an accent like he has just stepped out of my television screen. I must look ridiculous because I’m grinning incessantly with every word he says. The coach pulls up to the hotel and you can see from the offset it is an incredible piece of architecture. Between the high-rise buildings of New York are hidden gems steeped in character, and we happen to be staying in one. Yet the outside was nothing compared to the inside. The Wolcott entrance Hall is breath-taking – there is no other word for it. We went to our rooms, exhausted, and went straight to bed, alarms set for 6.30 New York time.
